Information On The Triassic Period
First among the three phases of the Mesozoic era was known as Triassic period that existed nearly 205 to 250 million years ago. During this period, Eastern North America comes out of the sea level while California and Nevadacontinued to submerge. During the lower Triassic, the sea expanded, and Idaho, Colorado and Wyoming, which submerged the British Colombia in middle Triassic, broaden into Alaska in upper Triassic. During the lower and upper Triassic period whole west coast, i.e. Alaska to British Columbia, was wracked by violent volcanic activity. |

At the end of this period, Eastern North America was set down in a trench. It formed three sequences. First is the Bunter series, the surface was evolved while red sandstone and sandy shale having some salt and gypsum was put down. Second is the Muschelkalk series, which witnessed the breach of land by sand with shale, sandstone and gypsum in deposition. The third one, Keuper series, is where the land was outwardly developed with shale, sandstone and gypsum deposits.
The climatic condition of the Triassic was dry and parched, and semi-parched. Marine algae grew profusely while ferns and tree ferns was not the vital produce. Conifers ruled the floral species, and new species called as cycads came into effect in this period. Triassic also saw the extinction of many Paleozoic invertebrates. The ammonites were also on the verge of disappearance, but they come back and grew in abundance in the Jurassic period.
Few amphibians were highly developed. In this period, reptiles dominated the group, but again they were less in abundance than that of Jurassic period. It also records the presence availability of many types of dinosaurs, pterosaurs and marine reptiles.
