How Does Natural Selection Result In Biodiversity For Kids ?

Over millions of years, organisms all over the world have taken favorable heritable traits and then passed them on to successive generations. Thus, paving way for adaptive evolution. However, the question is how does natural selection result in biodiversity for kids?

Before look at this question, let us first understand what biodiversity is. Biodiversity basically refers to the ecosystem where organisms, that are plants, animals and humans, live. In a biodiversity, all organisms are dependent on each other for their survival. A slight change in a biodiversity can, at times, be catastrophic because if one species is wiped out, it can have a domino effect.

However, as natural selection kicks in, only the species that are fit genetically can survive in a biodiversity and they, in turn, pass on their genes to their off springs. Biodiversity is important because all life depends on it. Even humans cannot survive outside an ecosystem. We get our food, medicines and industrial products from a biodiversity. It is biodiversity that ensure we and our kids are provided with recreation, energy, water, arable soil, education and research opportunities.

Without biodiversity natural selection cannot take place. As natural selection occurs, further changes in biodiversity take place and this becomes a continuous cycle where natural selection and biodiversity cannot function without each other. Each time natural selection occurs in an organism, a new biodiversity is created, which leads to further natural selection in the population of that organism. This is how natural selection results in biodiversity for kids and for all of us.

Theory-Of-Natural-Selection-Development      Each organism has physical characteristics which it passes on to successive generations. In Theory of Natural Selection, the physical characteristics are based on the organism's genes and its surrounding ecosystem. Basically the theory postulates that based on the changes that occur in an environment, an organism develops favorable traits that help it adapt to the changes and these traits are then passed to future generations.
