If you are an amateur fossil hunter, you should know which is the most common fossil. The most common fossil found across the world is a bone fossil. However, in certain parts of the world, the most common fossils are plant parts or marine life like bivalves. Therefore, figuring out which is the most common fossil in the world can be difficult as it all depends on which area or region you are looking at.
Where dinosaurs are concerned, the most common fossils found are that of hard body parts that usually consist of bones and teeth. In fact, in America in New Jersey, the first nearly complete fossil of a dinosaur was found in 1858, which was a remarkable discovery even by today's standards. Even dinosaur teeth and eggs have been found. The fossilized teeth of found were usually that of carnivorous dinosaurs embedded in the fossil of a herbivorous dinosaur.
Where insects and plants are concerned, the most common fossils are known as amber wherein the insect or certain plant parts get encased in tree sap which ends up preserving them. Here the entire insect or plant part is protected in its original form for us to see, admire and learn.
