Meteorite Theory Extinction Of Dinosaurs
| One of the most exciting theories explaining the extinction of dinosaurs is the Meteorite Theory. According to this theory, a meteorite hit the Earth in the late Cretaceous period leading to the extinction of dinosaurs. Walter and Luis Alvarez, who are father and son, found evidence during the course of their research that led them to this conclusion. |

While investigating in northern part of Italy, Walter and Luis Alvarez found iridium in clay from the Cretaceous period. Iridium is a rare element on Earth and is more common in meteorites. Further research revealed that the layer of iridium was not too large and matched with the Cretaceous-Tertiary boundary, leading them to conclude that a meteorite must have hit the Earth that led to the extinction of dinosaurs. Dinosaur Extinction And Gravity Theory
The biggest unanswered question today is about dinosaur extinction. Many people, including scientists, do not know how dinosaurs were suddenly wiped out from the face of the earth. Many scientists have postulated theories and one such theory that tries to explain dinosaur extinction is Gravity Theory.
There are some scientists who have put forward the Gravity Theory, saying that dinosaurs would not have been able to live in our present environment because of the strong gravity. This, of course, is true because the gravity that we experience today would not conducive to animals as large as the dinosaurs. Only aquatic animals can be large in our world because they have the surrounding water to support their big bulk.
Gravity Theory presumes that the gravity during the time when the dinosaurs existed was weaker than what it is today. Hence, the dinosaurs could live and flourish. It is quite possible that during the time when dinosaurs existed, the Earth was closer the Sun or the Moon was closer to the Earth. More...
Dinosaur Extinction Theory Of Disease
There are many theories available that try to explain how dinosaurs became extinct. One such theory that tries to explain dinosaur extinction is the Theory of Disease that was made extremely popular by Dr Robert T Bakker through his book The Dinosaur Heresies.
According to Theory of Disease, the sea level started to lower towards the end of the Cretaceous period. This lowering allowed land bridges to form, linking continents that were previously isolated from one another and the bridges also facilitated the migration of large animals. The animals that were migrating already had their own diseases and parasites but had developed some level of immunity to them. The migration caused the animals that did not have the immunity to be exposed to diseases and parasites and this ultimately led to their demise and extinction. More...
