Velociraptor was mainly found in the groups of dinosaurs, and they used the claw of their front foot for slashing and tearing down the flesh of the prey. Henry Fairfield Osborn christened it as Velociraptor, which means swift thief, in the year 1924.
The only feature that made this species of dinosaur look different from other members of its family was its narrow nose. The ragged teeth lined in a strong jaw were very beneficial for slashing and tearing down the flesh of animals. It did not believe in chewing its food. Rather it swallowed the large chunks of flesh whole, a habit quite similar to the theropods.
The pelvis of Velociraptor made it look similar to an early bird called as Archaeopteryx. Many paleontologists are of two minds on whether the Velociraptor had feathers. And, as no such evidence has been found till date and hence, it is not considered as a fact.
The first sample of Velociraptor was discovered by the American Museum of Natural History in the year 1923. In the deathly pose with Protoceratops, it was discovered in the sand pile of Djadokhta Formation of the late Cretaceous period in the Gobi Desert.
While paleontologists have been making all efforts to find out more about this dinosaur, they still have not been able to determine the lifespan of the Velociraptor.
