Velociraptor was a meat eating dinosaur, who took pleasure in gashing and tearing apart any living prey and then eating it. It was bipedal with slim and long legs to support it for running very fast. In fact, it is considered to be one of the fastest running dinosaurs. If we talk of short bursts, then the Velociraptor was capable of attaining speeds of up to 40 miles per hour or 60 kilometers per hour. It was also capable of jumping.
The remnants of the Velociraptor were found in the Central Asia and Russia, while the bones were discovered in Mongolia. Not much difference has been found in the surface of the earth from the Cretaceous period till date. Also, the conditions prevalent in modern-day Mongolia are quite similar to those present in the region during the late Cretaceous period.
Velociraptor lived predominantly on land in a parched desert, sand pile and intense sunshine. The Protoceratops, Oviraptor and the birds who could not fly were also found during the same time period. The foremost competitors of these were from the family member of Troodon and Saurornithoides.
The remains of Velociraptor and Protoceratops were found together and some of their bodily parts were so close to each other that gave a sign of the two species fighting each other. The hands of Protoceratops and Velociraptor were intertwined, whereas the sickle claw of the foot of the Velociraptor was embedded in the gullet of the Protoceratops. Both of them died and got buried in a sandstorm.
