What Color Was A Tyrannosaurus Rex ?
No one knows precisely the color of Tyrannosaurus Rex though it is accepted to have had a scaly skin with bumps, very similar to that of an alligator or a crocodile. It is believed that at one time the animal might have been covered in protofeathers. In the absence of remnants of soft tissue this hypothesis is speculative. |

It is also likely that with evolution these protofeathers were lost, having become superfluous, leaving the animal with a skin lacking insulatory covering like that of a modern hippopotamus, rhinoceros or elephant. It has long been accepted that the larger the animal the less insulatory covering required as the surface area to volume ratio decreases which means the animal is better able to retain body heat. Quite possibly parts of it still had protofeathers while the rest of it was covered in tough scaly skin. The loss of protofeathers might also have been occasioned with rising temperatures. In such event, body heat trapped in the insulation of protofeathers would have resulted in overheating.
Tyrannosaurus Rex was the largest known predator of its time and is often thought to have been a scavenger. This theory however is in dispute with compelling arguments in favor and against. Nonetheless T.Rex had an enormous head, and powerful jaws equipped with a formidable set of teeth. In a single bite and twist of its powerful neck it was capable of tearing out 500 pounds of flesh at once. The teeth were designed to tear rather than bite and were replaceable. T. Rex also had a well developed sense of smell and binocular vision with which it could spot prey at great distances.
