Tyrannosaurus Rex Features:
Similar to other theropods, it had an S-shaped neck that was short and muscular to support its huge head which measured upto 5 feet in length. The skull comprised a framework of light, strong bones that offered a robust platform for the powerful jaw muscles. Its eyes looked forward like that of most predators, affording it binocular vision. It had well developed olfactory bulbs and nerves which meant it had an acute sense of smell. T. Rex had a relatively long pointed tail designed to counterbalance the weight of the head and also aided the animal in making swift, tight turns. The tail kept the animal in a horizontal position. The forelimbs were comparatively short with two clawed fingers and an additional small third digit or metacarpal. The hind limbs were large and powerful with a robust tibia and a fibia of equal length. The arrangement suggests the animal was not a fast mover.
T. Rex was one of the largest carnivorous predators of its time and is believed by one school of thought to have been a scavenger living off the prey killed by others. While this is under debate, there is no escaping the fact that the animal had a powerful set of jaws with enormous teeth. With a single bite and a sharp twist of its powerful head it was capable of tearing off 500 pounds of flesh at a time. The jaws were capable of crushing bones in its mouth.
