Giganotosaurus Habitat
A forty-five feet long and eight tons heavy dinosaur, namely Giganotosaurus, was seen in the Cretaceous period. It was bigger in size compared to the Tyrannosaurus and smaller in size compared to the Spinosaurus. It was found in the late Cretaceous period that occurred nearly ninety-five million years ago. This was towards the end of the Mesozoic era, which is also known as the Age of Reptiles.
If the researches and studies done by the prominent scientists on Giganotosaurus are to be believed, then it was not powerful in comparison to the Tyrannosaurus rex. The research also revealed that Giganotosaurus had larger skull in comparison to Tyrannosaurs with small brain of banana size, strong and giant jaws having eight-inch long ragged teeth in six-foot long skull. How Big Was The Dinosaur Giganotosaurus ?
Giganotosaurus, which has been derived from the Greek word, explains it as 'gigas' meaning giant, 'notos' refers to the south and 'saurus' meaning lizard. In totality, it simply means giant southern lizard. The term south is added to this name because the remains of Giganotosaurus has been found in South America.Some 93 to 89 million years ago, in the Turonian stage of the late Cretaceous period, marked the existence of this carcharodontosaurid dinosaur called as Giganotosaurus.
