Some 93 to 89 million years ago, in the Turonian stage of the late Cretaceous period, marked the existence of this carcharodontosaurid dinosaur called as Giganotosaurus.
Giganotosaurus first got noticed in the year 1995 in the Patagonia region of Argentina at the Rio Limay Formation by Ruben Carolini. Giganotosaurus is thought to have survived in the Turonian stage of the late Cretaceous period, some ninety million years ago.
Till many years, Giganotosaurus was considered to the largest carnivorous, but in the recent studies, it got proved that the Spinosaurus is bigger in length and breadth than the Giganotosaurus. It has been proved that Giganotosaurus was 45 feet long, 16.6018.3 feet tall having 5.2 ton of weight. The size of the skull was six feet 5 inches. Giganotosaurus is almost 2 meters longer than the Tyrannosaurus rex.
The most noticing thing in the whole body of the Giganotosaurus was a giant head with greatest skull among theropod dinosaurs, but with a small brain inside. Inside the large skull, a highly developed olfactory region has been found which says that Giganotosaurus had a very strong sense of smell.
The teeth of Giganotosaurus were small and narrow, an ideal teeth for slicing fless that leaves a deep cut mark on the victim flesh while that of Tyrannosaurus rex had sharp and cutting edge that made him stronger.
