Giganotosaurus Vs Spinosaurus
Before the discovery of Giganotosaurus, it was considered that Tyrannosaurus Rex was the biggest carnivorous. In the year 1993, Ruben Carolini, an amateur fossil hunter, discovered the remains of Giganotosaurus and proved this fact. |

Giganotosaurus is a 45 feet long, a slight increase in the length than Tyrannosaurus Rex. Though, the remains of Giganotosaurus could not give the exact size of his skeleton but it has generated an estimate which says 1.7 meter long while that of Tyrannosaurus Rex was 1.53 meter long. The dinosaurs having second largest skull after Giganotosaurus was Cacharodontosaurus, who had 1.6 meter long skull.
Despite the giant physical structure, Giganotosaurus is not considered among the most powerful dinosaurs. Tyrannosaurus Rex tops in this list. The teeth of Giganotosaurus were smaller in size than Tyrannosaurus Rex. Also, the brain and body of Giganotosaurus was less healthy and not as strong as the Tyrannosaurus Rex's. Giganotosaurus is supposed to have existed in the early stage of Cretaceous period in Argentina in the village El Chocon. This has been hypothesized on the basis of the place where its remains were found.
In the recent studies, the name of another dinosaur came into effect. This is Spinosaurus, a theropod, which is considered to be larger than the Giganotosaurus. The studies revealed that it was fifty-two to fifty-nine feet long and weighed around 7 to 9 tons. It was first discovered by an Egyptian in the 1910s, and later explained by the German paleontologist Ernst Stromer. It is expected that the Spinosaurus lived in the place which is now known as North Africa in the Albian to early Cenomanian stage of the Cretaceous period, around 100 to 93 million years ago.
The original remnants of Spinosaurus were destroyed in the Second World War. In the recent years, some more skull materials have been discovered, but it is not very clear that the remains belong to one or two species. The Spinosaur fossil from Egypt is considered to the best known species which is followed by S. marocannus from Morocco.
