Giganotosaurus Habitat

A forty-five feet long and eight tons heavy dinosaur, namely Giganotosaurus, was seen in the Cretaceous period. It was bigger in size compared to the Tyrannosaurus and smaller in size compared to the Spinosaurus. It was found in the late Cretaceous period that occurred nearly ninety-five million years ago. This was towards the end of the Mesozoic era, which is also known as the Age of Reptiles.

If the researches and studies done by the prominent scientists on Giganotosaurus are to be believed, then it was not powerful in comparison to the Tyrannosaurus rex. The research also revealed that Giganotosaurus had larger skull in comparison to Tyrannosaurs with small brain of banana size, strong and giant jaws having eight-inch long ragged teeth in six-foot long skull. This dinosaur is also considered to be the largest carnivorous dinosaurs, who walked on two legs.

The remains of the Giganotosaurus were ascertained by a layperson fossil hunter, namely Ruben Carolini, in the year 1993 near Northern Patagonia. He found almost the whole of the skeleton and later recognizing what he had found, he straight away called 2 professional paleontologists, namely Rodolfo Coria and Leonardo Salgado. After this discovery, it became clear that Giganotosaurus was the largest hunter on this planet and not Tyrannosaurs rex.

The latest remains found till date of dinosaurs is of Giganotosaurus. Argentina is the place known for finding such remains, and it is expected that still many remains are buried there and there is great need to search for those remains.

The original remains of Giganotosaurus that was found in the year 1993 are exhibited in the Carmen Funes Museum in Neuquen, Argentina and replicas in other museums.
